Movies that evoke a sense of Americana, or, more specifically, Middle America or the South, or just the concept of America. Perhaps with a twang. Think Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe, or Hank Williams as much as a road movie or the American flag. Something rural more than suburban, but more appropriately, something with wide open highways. They have to be set in America, and it's preferable if they're made by Americans (but the best one I can think of is by Wenders).
If it directly addresses American history, it probably counts, but no war movies. No Westerns, as they are covered elsewhere.
