Interstellar

Interstellar ★★★★

“We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars. Now we just look down, and worry about our place sin the dirt.”

Nolan Ranked

I have a lot of mixed feelings about Interstellar. If I had to rate the film from its technical standpoints this would easily be a 10/10 but there were just a lot I didn’t enjoy about the script and performances at times. The sound design was also amazingly done. It cut exactly when it needed to and allowed for the visuals to linger. I personally didn’t enjoy the child actress for Murphy. While she did a good job crying, I just couldn’t buy any of her emotional moments which took me out at times. These issues I had with the performances stuck out because everyone else was great, especially Matthew McConaughey. The script is also really cheesy and even gimmicky at times. And while the concepts are definitely cerebral and unique, the re-incorporation of all the elements felt so forced and had me predicting some events. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve seen 2001 that every single space odyssey can never and will never be able to amount to that greatness. It’s no 2001 but it is without a doubt one of the most visually striking films ever created.
