John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum ★★★★½

Yeah, I’m thinking I’m a fan. I wasn’t as big on the original as most, but 2 completely blew me away and somehow this one followed it up and blew my socks off again. The action in this film and 2 are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Each set piece is brutal, visually impressive, brilliantly choreographed, and unique. That uniqueness is really this film’s strength—in a lessor movie, the audience might start to become fatigued at Wick plows through literally hundreds of enemies. But here, each fight brings something new to the table (or should I say under the table?).

My one criticism in the past two Wick films is this: there aren’t really any heroes. Everyone, including Wick, is a completely self-interested actor. No one is fighting for any higher cause or moral purpose. Call me old fashioned, or over-serious, but that does cost them the five stars in my mind.

Regardless, the loving thoughtfulness put into the action in this movie eclipses almost every other pic in the genre. Really excited to see 4 soon.
