Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart ★★½

This has to be Lynch's most boring and nonsensical, and I didn't even think it was possible for him to be well, the former. Not nonsensical in the way he usually is but surprisingly straightforward than he usually is. So in that way, it's a good introduction to Lynch if you've never seen his films but a massive step back in terms of what he is capable of. The main protagonists are so boring and all they do is surface level. It's not until Willem Defoe shows up, does it actually get interesting. He was hilarious. This was basically a romantic comedy/heist/road trip/crime movie and non of it was compelling for me to care about. The campiest Lynch and Diane Ladd is SO good at that type of melodrama. And what was with all the Wizard of Oz shit?! Nicolas Cage doing a really bad Elvis impression throughout in the world's ugliest jacket is not something I appreciated. The lipstick face scene is hilarious and the only reason to watch.
