I love a good Tarantino film but this one missed the mark for me.
I get that he was trying to show the horrific nature of the time, but if you need a Tarantino movie to explain that slavery was bad than something has gone seriously wrong with your education. Violence doesn't bother me but this hyper-realistic torture of black people was incredibly hard to watch and didn't seem to serve a purpose other than for the sake of violence itself. As a white person myself, I really struggle to see a way for white people to tell stories about slavery that don't feel exploitive.
I have never been less attracted to Leonardo DiCaprio.
