  • The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

This movie reminds me of what Coca Cola tastes like. I mean that to be deeply complimentary, and I clarify because one time, at the film school I hated and wanted to die at, we had a guest speaker come and talk about Andrei Tarkovsky. Everyone thought he was the son! of Tarkovsky, so an otherwise very skippable educational event was well attended. But his last name was actually "Trakovsky" or something deceptively close. I do wonder how many Tarkovsky…

  • The Shawshank Redemption

    The Shawshank Redemption

While this movie wasn’t made for me (made for high school junior boys who gave up team sports to spend more time fishing in retention ponds) I still enjoy it!

  • Little Shop of Horrors

    Little Shop of Horrors

Avoided this because of high school theater associations but I guess those peers were often onto something even if they went about it poorly. Alan Menken, I didn’t know. Songs are good, performances are gnarly, particularly Ellen Greene - absolutely gnarly! Weird movie, puppet is gnarly, Steve Martin is gnarly and to-the-wall! Gnarly film I like it!

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Really understanding lord of the rings on this watch: It is silly! There are talking trees and fellbeasts and they need to light the beacon of Gondor. Just piecing it all together that that is silly, I get it now!

  • The Grey

    The Grey

Saw this with my dad after dropping out of film school and moving home to do community college. We both liked it. Logged!

  • Michael Clayton

    Michael Clayton

    Richard Jewell

  • Back to the Future Part II

Back to the Future Part II

Food for thought: if ‘The Oscars’ were, instead, ‘The Fun Awards’, this may have very well won best picture 1990!

  • My Octopus Teacher

    My Octopus Teacher

    Our Cartoon President

  • The Social Dilemma

    The Social Dilemma

Made me think phone is fucked up and I am fucked up and letterboxd is bad too and gamefies what used to be one of my more untainted hobbies of watching movies. But also a very goofy narrative but also buoyed by featuring actors I like. Did you know Vincent Kartheiser faked a receding hairline over the five seasons of Mad Men? That is so funny, Mad Men is so good and I never got to talk about it on Letterboxd. That’s the real social dilemma — no mad men on letterboxd!
