Si vis pacem, para bellum.
The John Wick franchise has been an uphill journey for my personal taste. As each film is released, I grow fonder of this violent and crazy experience that is to watch a John Wick film. Parabellum was a complete homerun for me, it is exactly what an action film should be and I couldn't think of a better time I had watching a film of this genre than the one I did today while witnessing this in the big screen. The story is pretty straightforward and there isn't much to be said about it, but I honestly don't mind the fact that it is, let's say, basic. Because at the end of the day, they made up for it and they made the whole thing work as a film, compensating its few lows with its many highs. It is fast paced, almost complete non-stop absolutely nuts action, beautifully shot with a set design that did wonders for it, constructed in direction of consistent higher stakes being brought to the table as the film goes through each of his own levels, and, of course, the amazingly coreographed and going from a range of absurdly funny to schockingly fantastic action scenes.
Easily the best film of the three released so far, Parabellum has many things to teach its genre peers and raises the stakes not only for its successor and fourth installment of the franchise, but also action films to come.
