Garrett Smith’s review published on Letterboxd:
Nastier & more cynical than it’s predecessor while sporting a more confident overall package.
Scream 2 is arguably a stronger film but to me it misses what makes the first one so endearing....which is charm.
Scream 1996 wears it’s charm and love for deconstructing the horror genre on it’s sleeve which makes it the superior film for me.
However...Scream 2 laughs at horror conventions and gleefully gives them the middle finger...which makes it a bolder and more confident film.
Whatever cup of tea you prefer doesn’t really matter because Scream 1 & 2 are arguably the best horror duo in history & each one is worthy of being called the best in the franchise.
