Sorcerer

Sorcerer

Watched as part of Cinepocalypse Weekend.

One of those movies that'll have you leaving claw marks in the furniture. A misery-laden film of sweating dynamite and sweaty politics where you're never quite certain which are going to blow first. For a movie that is eyeing its 50th anniversary, its doomed heroes are still largely recognizable in modern terms: men of disposable morals made to live marginal lives immiserating themselves for the opportunity to strike back and then slink away to vindicate themselves against forces even nastier than they are. As the twentieth-century trucked through one calamity to the next one can either shirk in fear or yell for one's life. A movie that embodies Neruda's plea, "Piedad para estos siglos y sus sobrevivientes."
