Carol

Carol ★★★★

76/100

Second viewing, no change. Favorite moment this time was the oneiric drive to Carol's house (when Therese visits): blurry, abstract images; muffled dialogue; "You Belong to Me" playing on the radio, but barely identifiable...and then that fleeting dissolve to Therese in the back seat of the cab, which suggests (not entirely logically, given various scenes in which she's not present, but that's okay) that most of the film is unfolding in her memory. Still not in love with the problem-picture aspects, which come with the source material, but their presence does make the ending, in which they're defiantly ignored, that much more thrilling.
