    Herakles

Herzog's first film, made when he was 19, and he considers it his apprenticeship, rather than going to film school.

Clearly a man that's always been interested in obsession and sacrifice in pursuit of goals, here with shots of body builders working out, or the 24 hour les man races. Both cases putting bodies (and machines) through a lot of strain in order to achieve an impossible goal, a Herculean task.

The part of the film that engages with arranged marriages, and not in a cliched or simplistic way…

    See How They Run

I've got a little bit of the mediocre murder mystery bug today, and this fits the mould nicely. It opens by lampshading the whole genre and exactly what to expect here, zipping through the mandatory prologue, character introductions, then the murder and the arrival of a detective on set.

We have a murder mystery on the set of a murder mystery stage play, involving writers, directors and actions in the world of murder mysteries. It's not a deconstruction or a…
