germaine’s review published on Letterboxd:
upon a rewatch i got to focus on the details that make this movie such a symbolic (aside from narrative) masterpiece. one example is how the architecture of the house is structured in a way that represents the social issues and class difference between the two families.
* the abundant vs nonexistant lighting in the mansion vs in the bunker / basement.
* the long stairs that go down to the dark bunker vs the clean, full of light stairwell that lead up to the house and rooms of the rich family.
i’m sure there are plenty more that i didn’t notice but not one single detail of this movie went without careful thinking and i love that about it.
