• Perfect

one of the most obscene hollywood films of all time

  • Outbreak

    bonkers movie

if only the last 17 months had more protracted helicopter chases covid would be over by now.

  • Armageddon

with commentary by michael bay, ben affleck, bruce willis, and jerry bruckheimer.

started out watching the movie sans-commentary but it was really boring so we switched to watching it with commentary.

solid commentary! ben affleck steals the show, as is well-known at this point. he makes fun of the movie a lot but still has some interesting stuff to say about what it's like to act in a blockbuster like this.

bay seems like a real tool as you'd expect…

  • Contact

mccounaghey made a bold choice to make all of his dialogue to jodie sexual innuendos even when it wasn't at all appropriate to the scene.

ralph fiennes has big incel energy in this one.

def not unique in presenting "romance" as a dude being a neurotic cloying creep (though at least it's an "equal opportunity offender" in that binoche pulls the same shit to poor naveen andrews), but i'm shocked so many critics -- even ones who otherwise didn't like the movie -- fell for it.

it's really funny tho. if you like the idea of watching a 3 hour prestige ww2 drama and yukking it up with some pals i recommend a watch.

watched with schrader commentary. fun but not one of his best. he spends a good chunk of the movie talking about how bad he thinks it is.

hard disagree, paul! this one's pretty good!

  • Space Fantasia 2001 Nights

    Space Fantasia 2001 Nights

like supernova, which i watched right before this, i couldn't understand anything that was happening in this movie for the first 50 minutes.

then 5 minutes later it was over.

  • Supernova

for the first 50 mins i couldn't understand anything happening in this movie.

then once i could understand i didn't like what i understood.

an underrated aspect of watching audio commentaries is how much being abstracted from the moment-to-moment narrative frees me to pay closer attention to the visuals.

this movie looks cool as hell.
