  • The Centerfold Girls

    The Centerfold Girls

    ★★½

This just felt unnecessarily cruel in how unrelenting it is about these women and their misfortunes. I like the aspect of an anthology film via each of a serial killer's victims, and I suppose arguably each had to make things interesting before he shows up to end it, but it's just exhausting watching each woman suffer endlessly. It feels like it relishes each attempted or successful sexual assault, each person one after the next that mistreats them in one way…

  • Possessor

    Possessor

    ★★½

Everyone who made me believe this was going to be an excellent horror film owes me a dollar.

Please be aware that the literal first scene of the film has a graphic scene involving a Black woman and police. I cannot believe that I saw nothing about this to warn people of it, it's deeply unsettling (but not for any commentary reasons just Because imo) and I imagine incredibly triggering for some.

    tw/cw: Aside from that there's a LOT of…

  • Halloween H20: 20 Years Later

    Halloween H20: 20 Years Later

    ★★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

While this has some of the trappings of what we see later in the most recent Halloween film i.e. Laurie and how she struggles with her past trauma, the semi-remake achieves the concept much better. Part of that may be due to the fact I feel like nothing much happened in this i.e. killing and all until the last like... half hour? And if much of that was dedicated to Laurie and her struggles maybe that'd be one thing, but…

  • Dinosaurus!

    Dinosaurus!

    ★★½

Very dorky and definitely has some racial insensitivity, but the dinos are pretty cute.

    tw/cw: N/A

  • Holiday Hell

    Holiday Hell

    ★★½

While Jeffrey Combs certainly is the best actor in this overall (and is why I watched it), I still had a decent time watching it. At least the first short had some deaf/ASL representation, and the fact that there was a Hanukkah story was something.

    tw/cw: blood/gore

  • The Midnight Sky

    The Midnight Sky

    ★★½

It's not bad but it's just got nothing to make it all that memorable. The acting is all solid though.

    tw/cw: blood

  • Blood Beat

    Blood Beat

    ★★½

There is so much that is inexplicable about this film, one of the main things being why it IS a Christmas horror movie that also features a girl possessed by a samurai spirit who is also maybe her bf's dad that also make her orgasm while it's killing people????

It's fucking bizarre but in a fun way if also a 'what the fuck is going on' way.

    tw/cw: blood/gore
animal death (there's a deer that's gutted to be cleaned out by a hunter)

  • Tenet

    Tenet

    ★★½

Nolan is far too pretentious for his own good, and the sentiment he keeps accidentally making gay ass films because he can't write women for shit is absolutely true. That being said, John David Washington is good, and I do appreciate him being the lead and carrying a lot of the film when he's not being very gay with Robert Pattinson.

    tw/cw: blood
    spouse abuse

  • The Wild, Wild Planet

    The Wild, Wild Planet

    ★★½

I really lost the thread on this one once they started getting a tour of the facility with the fake (?) doll (?) people (?) and am not a fan of the end but there was also a dude in a trenchcoat who would hug people with it and turn them into still living teeny dolls so that was fun.

Also the spaceship-y cars were really cute.

tw/cw: Sort of blood/gore but like very clearly not real lmao

  • Ava

    Ava

    ★★½

I love Chastain, Farrell, and Geena Davis, but none of them could save this film from being pretty typical of a spy drama. Nobody did a bad job really, it's just predictable as hell.

    tw/cw: blood

  • The Princess Switch: Switched Again

    The Princess Switch: Switched Again

    ★★½

Unnecessary but still fine, but there is an annoying amount of shoving for a relationship to happen which was just like eye rolly.

    tw/cw: Nothing??? I don't think

  • The House in the Middle

    The House in the Middle

    ★★½

Things that FEEL racist but aren't technically that (but isn't it really?)

They really tried to make it out that if you get fucked up by a nuke it's because you weren't tidy enough, incredible.

tw/cw: N--nothing I guess but I felt like I was being gaslit lmaooooooo
