This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

This film blended several different genres all into one film seamlessly, making something completely unique. The chemistry between Dylan and Mara feels so genuine and sweet, and really grounds the film along with a dedication to making all the kids in it feel very much like real kids dealing with tragedy that they can't fathom. I feel like it may have accidentally hit something resonant with what it must be like to be a teen right now dealing with a…

Cynthia Erivo as Holly Gibney my beloved........

An excellent slow burn that really gets you invested in the characters (even with a bunch of them being white men and cops??? lmao incredible), and does an excellent job with the unnerving aspects.

    body horror/blood/gore

Despite this film sounding out there in being about ants gaining genius intelligence and using it to attack mankind, it's oddly down to earth overall and grim in execution. There's a lot of beautiful close up footage of ants just doing things that's made somehow sinister, and the whole look of the film gives it a kind of gravitas you wouldn't expect from an animals/bugs gone murderous type film.

    tw/cw: animal death (horse, gerbil)
If you're not a fan of getting really close and personal with ants then avoid this

I wish I could've watched the sub of this first and someday I'll have to, but man the animation is just gorgeous.

    tw/cw: body horror

God this was incredibly cute and heartwarming. Maeve Higgins is lovely and we deserve more protags with love interests like her.

    tw/cw: emetophobia
It's a little caught up in gender binary/cissexism maybe

  • The Curse of Frankenstein

It's wild that Victor is even MORE of a bastard man in this version, because even outside of how he treats his creation he's just a fucker to everyone else too. Cushing is great at it though, of course.

Everyone in this does a great job making it feel so genuine to the point it's hard to watch from second hand embarrassment, but really enjoyable all the same. Keery is great but Sasheer Zamata is the best.

    tw/cw: blood
epilepsy warning possibly for a lot of shaky cam and general flailing of the camera
    homophobic slurs/racism from some characters/commenters
