  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

For whatever reason I feel like I was really able to appreciate this much more the second time around. Possibly with help from context given by Joe Bob Briggs.

    tw/cw: blood/gore/body horror
    ableism I guess probably
    sexist language

  • Ralph Breaks the Internet

    Ralph Breaks the Internet

I had so many worries about this one, but they were all waved away by the film itself. It wasn't predictable like I was afraid it was going to be in terms of antagonists, and instead took things to a much deeper and more interesting place. It has an amazingly good message at it's core and the fact that two characters who struggle a lot with anger and identity are the protags will never not be so so important. There…

  • Pet Sematary

    Pet Sematary

I wish Fred Gwynne was my grandpa. Also the baby boy in this film si so great at being so cute and so HORRIFYING.

    tw/cw: child death
    animal death
    blood/gore/body horror

  • The Witch in the Window

    The Witch in the Window

Short and sweet with great and endearing characters in the father and son that kept me completely invested and a satisfying if bittersweet ending. It's not big in it's scares but I adore when films quietly put in something that the viewer will see if they pay attention and that the protags never do. The mechanics and "lore" you could say of everything was unique and I just really enjoyed the overall atmosphere.

    tw/cw: eye scream
I think that's about it actually???

  • Halloween

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The writing in this film is so solid PARTICULARLY with the kids and teenagers for once. I'm so often, especially with horror, irritated at how fake or exaggerated teens often are made to sound like but this was spot on. There were such great lines, particularly with Vicky and I believe Julian was the name of the kiddo she was babysitting but they were both so funny and cute and Vicky :( you deserved better girl.

    Allyson was also wonderful…

  • Extraordinary Tales

    Extraordinary Tales

Beautifully animated and with some killer picks for narrators (Guillermo!!!) combined to make all of these super fun to watch. I've seen renditions of most of these stories multiple times, but it brought something fresh to each of them.

    tw/cw: eye scream
    blood??? I think

  • The Final Girls

    The Final Girls

There's a lot of really solid, great relationships between women in this, hence the title, but it was still a really pleasant surprise. Some of the humor here and there was iffy but nothing awful by any means. And as far as straight boy love interests go this one was Genuinely Really Good as a person and that was refreshing. (It's thanks to the gay dads).

I'm glad I finally got to see this one! Meta shit is always a…

  • Revenge

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

While I'm not a fan of using rape in horror or just in general as a... causality, this film still did so in a way (aka not graphically showing it) that I could tolerate for the rest of the film which was so good and satisfying. Boy howdy does she get revenge, and it is ruthless. Matilda Lutz is fantastic.

In general too I really liked the aesthetic and editing, I can see why some people might not, but I…

  • Mandy

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

What a fuckin wild film, truly. As much as I'm extremely tired of 'wife gets killed to cause revenge fantasy' plots, and that still would be my one issue with it, obviously it really was a must for this and they still managed to make it feel like something fresh. The Hellraiser almost bikers and all were just so weird and interesting and the fights were satisfying and you never really knew what to expect from them. It just a really damn fun watch.

tw/cw: animal death (already dead when found)
blood/gore/body horror/eye scream all that good stuff
    misogynistic language

  • Thelma

If the gay girls get a happy ending, I'm happy tbh!! Hell yeah.

tw/cw: big warning for flashing lights
    water/drowning (almost)

  • To All the Boys I've Loved Before

To All the Boys I've Loved Before

I'm not a huge romcom fan but this one is absolutely so good and cute, there's so much that's positive about it and of course the representation is what we need more of always. It made me wibbly multiple times.

    tw/cw: nothing honestly rly

  • The Cat with Hands

    The Cat with Hands

    HOO BOY.............. bye

    tw/cw: body horror
