David Gifford’s review published on Letterboxd:
Thanks to Maniac Mike for bringing this film to my attention, and allowing me to borrow this.
A mindbending anime feature film, that is absolutely incredible in every sense of the word. Its a story far ahead of its time, one that every film fan should probably watch at least once. Perfect Blue is a tale of toxic fandom, the blurring lines of fantasy and reality, and a descent into madness following what everyone else expects from you.
Its a really dark movie, so don't expect this one too be light. Its got a lot of pretty rough content (gore and nudity), but it is all completely warranted. It uses those darker themes to show a story that I found myself completely mesmerized by.
I don't want to say much about the movie to avoid spoilers of this movie. The similarities to David Lynch are extremely accurate with this cinematic masterpiece. I am glad that I finally got around to this one, and it will likely be my favorite anime feature of all time. 100% for me, but an incredible film.
