Gillian Kaney’s review published on Letterboxd:
Another great Marvel film, they rarely disappoint for me and even when they do, my ratings are still fairly high.
I love me some martial arts and there are some really brilliant action scenes.
The film is also stunning! The colours are wonderful.
My man Tony still has it ❤ how is he 59! He is absolutely fantastic in this, It was so crazy hearing him speak English though!
Simu Liu (Shang/Shaun) is such a great addition to the Marvel universe. Nearly everyone did a superb job and I even really liked Awkwafina in this (I wasn't that keen on her in Crazy Rich Asians).
I loved Tony's character reveal (I don't know anything about the Shang-Chi side of marvel). However, I can only deal with that Trevor character in small doses and he was probably the worst thing about the film for me. He was cute with Morris though. ❤ the creatures were awesome! Especially the dragon 😍.
I did feel that some scenes went on a bit too long.
I kind of wanted a really happy ending too with everyone's souls going back into their bodies, once the big bad was defeated but I guess that's just me actually being cheesier than Disney. 🤣 I was also so disappointed with that underwhelming death for the really awesome mask knife guy. Loved him and I wanted to see much more.
I thought the end credit scene looked weird too. Why did Brie and Ruffalo look so odd. That wasn't very well done for me. 🙃 however, I'm definitely excited for how things are going to pan out in this next phase.
So overall, another gem added to the MCU, with characters that I can't wait to see more of. I look forward to watching it again at some point.
