I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least slightly disappointed with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Although I went in with very low expectations (as I tend to do with most sequels) and then admittedly got back more than I expected, I still feel as if I hadn't gotten what I wanted out of it exactly. It's a change in tone and one that I didn't expect.
Trying to separate it from the first though and forcing myself to think of it as its own entity, it's a whole heap of fun with lots of cannibalistic gore, some amazing sets and an abundance of weirdness. It's far more comedic and subsequently less grounded than the original, but it works. The family have been somewhat neutered in terms of their scariness but that's made up for a little bit by its sheer outlandishness. I'll almost certainly revisit this sometime soon to see if I can't refine my thoughts on it.
