Bad Trip.
Another claustrophobic emotional nightmare by Ari Aster, from which there is no escape. This one though takes place all under the sunlight. And you know what they say- sunlight is the best disenfectant. Maybe especially when you’re trying to purge yourself of anything that has overstayed its welcome.
Has multiple threads going on that I thought it was juggling extremely well, but I can’t help but feel like it ends up landing on the less interesting of them. I’m gonna have to chew on the ending for a while.
One thing that is absolutely certain though is that it is an astounding feat of production design and direction. Aster is so confident, it’s really mind blowing.
I definitely like it more than HEREDITARY, but for kind of the opposite reasons. He has a masterpiece in him somewhere.
