Some of the war and victimisation discussion that occurs is uncomfortable given the atrocities Japan has committed and refused to acknowledge. So it can appease nationalistic sentiments in Japanese viewers that have the inter-generational trauma of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, but not the education to understand Japans own war crimes.
That is a side note to this film which is mostly critical of the Japanese government. Still worth recognising though.
This is the definitive Kaiju film and also a biting satire of governmental bureaucracy and bullshit international relations ππΎ
Essential pandemic viewing.
