Paul Elliott’s review published on Letterboxd:
Margaret Tait was a celebrated Scottish independent filmmaker, and this intensely personal short documentary celebrating the ordinary and everyday life of her mother amounts to a mesmeric and loving portrayal of Ga as well as the Orkney Islands in the north of Scotland. The comfortable sense of location and the deep appreciation of the time Tait spent with her mother becomes communicated with some beautiful observed small details during the four-minute film such as the close-up of Ga’s elderly hands struggling to open a boiled sweet. Tait’s poetic and cosy techniques have had a beneficial impact on subsequent generations of filmmakers.
