Cats

Cats

Based on the stage musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which itself was based on an anthology of humourous poetry by T. S. Eliot titled Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, this Tom Hooper (Les Misérables) helmed vehicle spotlights an ensemble cast in the ridiculous undertaking of demonstrating catlike tendencies.

The essential choreography leaves a considerable amount to be desired, and the work by predominantly stage choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler forges a frequently breaking of character for the cast with some ill-fitting contemporary hip-hop being just one of the imprudent modifications brought to the story, which over and above that sees the actors entrenched in digitally inserted glaring and tasteless backdrops. However, even if the alterations made were in the realm of the positive, which they’re not, it still would never be adequate to offset the horrible and nightmare-inducing physical depiction of the cats. This movie is simply horrendous.
