Paul Elliott’s review published on Letterboxd:
Floundering images of Barbara Hershey glimmer on the screen from beginning to end in this short film from Austrian avant-garde filmmaker Peter Tscherkassky. Hershey emerges as a young woman being panicked and terrorised by an invisible hostile force while the soundtrack screeches incessantly. The film observes her repeatedly thrashing against the confines of the frame to break out, frequently causing the permanence of the movie to become disrupted. Tscherkassky is known for working primarily with pre-existing footage, and this short materialised by refashioning 1982’s The Entity from Superman IV: The Quest for Peace director Sidney J. Furie. Outer Space is a lightning bolt of cinematic eccentricities resulting in a distinctive abstract horror film.
