Paul Elliott’s review published on Letterboxd:
Dutch filmmakers Joris Ivens and Mannus Franken's documentary film Regen (Rain) escalates as an observational study and artfully depicts the beginning and subsequent effects of a rain shower in Amsterdam. The silent black-and-white short, photographed entirely using a hand-held camera, see the filmmaker's record a gallery of arresting and poetic images which materialise on the rain-soaked streets. They additionally film the actions and consequences of people when it commences raining together with the impact and implications of the downpour on the surrounding terrain and animals. The short delivers a conveyance of pleasure by merely observing the raindrops dancing their way through the streets together with the different visual patterns produced on the puddles by the city's downpour. Regen depicts a straightforward but lovely story of urban raindrops.
