Paul Elliott’s review published on Letterboxd:
This darkly funny look at a touching and at times toxic friendship between filmmakers and actors Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin sees them adding six chapters to their 2018 short of the same name to turn it into a feature-length film. The narrative observes the two friends together and their interactions with others through a colour palette which is often as miserable as their lives. It's a tumultuous and enduring friendship which spans over many years and encompasses agony, resentment and, most importantly, laughter.
The story materialises through an act structure which is both delightful and unconventional, and the series of snapshots, that play as vignettes in isolation, are all invariably funny and revealing. The episodes themselves feature many amusing elements while assembling towards an actual punchline at the end which examines the friendship from different gradients often in an unfavourable and codependent light.
The offbeat comical sensibilities from director Covino demonstrate a noticeable fascination with long-takes and a particular brand of humour that is not only natural and authentic but entirely as tangible as the film. The vignettes congregate as an overall narrative when evaluated through the combined experiences of the comically absorbing and richly refined lead characters Mike (Covino) and Kyle (Marvin). It'sIt's additionally balanced with tragedy and slapstick, and it is all prevailingly hilarious.
