    Willy's Wonderland

    ★★½

This movie would've been infinitely better without 90% of its cast. Nic Cage, the animatronics, and that pinball machine are the stars of this movie. We didn't need the teen gang of clichés or the forced exposition, just Nic Cage beating the shit out of some oily, demonic robots and then jamming out on his breaks.

Extra half star for the highly satisfying cleaning sequences.

I can officially say I've seen 98% of this film. I don't do vomit.

  • Haunt

    Haunt

    ★★★★

In rating this four stars, I'm choosing to ignore the cringe-inducing dialogue that permeates the first third and instead focus on the awesome production design, protagonist, and gore effects!

With the first brutal murder, it immediately becomes clear that Haunt won't be pulling any punches. The tension ramps up nicely and bits of foreshadowing are peppered throughout, leading to satisfying payoffs.

I found myself pulling the blanket up to my chin during several scenes and one particularly graphic moment with…

I like Shrek The Musical better and I will not apologize for it.

    Megamind

    ★★★★

I've seen this movie several times and I never fail to forget about the twist during the final battle. I don't know if that's a sign of smart writing or if I'm just forgetful. Either way, Megamind is thoroughly entertaining and a standout among DreamWorks Animation films.

  • The Boss Baby

    The Boss Baby

    ★★★½

I'm still shocked by how much I don't hate this movie. I could do without the gross-out humor, but the heart of this story is sweet. Between the vibrant design of Tim's imagination sequences and the touching message told through (sometimes) clever metaphor, The Boss Baby is a surprisingly enjoyable watch.

  • The Brave Little Toaster

    The Brave Little Toaster

    ★★½

This was even more terrifying than I remembered. The air conditioner losing his shit genuinely made my heart race more than most horror movies. As a child, I was always scared of the dream sequence with the demonic fireman clown and the junk yard scene where the kid almost gets smashed to death. But upon rewarching this as an adult, I also discovered straight up appliance murder, suicide, and some seriously twisted songs. (Side note: Little Richard's Tutti Frutti is…

    Americans in Bed

    ★★½

"That was a good answer, okay? *snaps* So eat a dick" -the narcissistic girl (whose marriage is a nightmare) to no one in particular (her husband? The producers? The camera crew??)

I adored some of these couples and despised others, the latter of which heavily influenced my view of the film. It was difficult to ascertain any deeper meaning because I was so distracted by how obnoxious some of those people were. For every insightful or vulnerable moment, there was…
