“I really do have love to give, I just don’t know where to put it”

This fucking movie broke me into tears like no other film or TV show ever has or probably will do again. I don’t even fucking know what to say, I am sat here in the middle of the night alone with so many thoughts about life after watching this. I never usually write letterboxd entries straight away but I am going to try to put my thoughts into words, apologies in advance if nothing makes sense.

This is such an indescribably great movie, with so many layers to the storytelling and has by far the best editing of any film I have ever seen, and I don’t mean snappy jumpcuts or cool transitions, I mean actual editing, the thing that makes a film, that brings all other aspects together, but most importantly in this case, the story and the parallels between all of the characters and it achieves this with breathtaking cutting between each of the characters when they are having similar feelings and are each going through their own incredible struggles. It is such a huge shame that all of this mastery is ruined by voiceover at the beginning and the end as the narrator literally tries to explain to us that it is not chance and that things like this are all connected, like no shit that’s what we have been shown the entire film, so why almost ruin the masterpiece by literally explaining to me what has happened like I am some idiot. Everyone gives the best performances of there respective careers, but I have to say that Tom Cruise outshines everyone with his sensational performance. Honestly such an incredible piece of art about forgiveness, redemption and being true to yourself and being who you want to be. That final song and shot is perfect and I still cannot get it out of my head.
