King Kong

King Kong ★★★★★

Plenty of the acting and dialogue is now hokey, Fay Wray screams a bit too much, and the 1933 stuff is definitely 1933 stuff, but does it still hold up overall? More than absolutely. Truly one of the greatest motion pictures in history. Exploring the soul of a monster through breakthrough special effects and a real empathetic nature. Even allowing for its slow start, wooden acting and wall-to-wall screaming, there is something ageless and primeval about King Kong that still somehow works.
