  • The Whale

    The Whale 2022

    This apartment smells.
    This notebook is retarded.
    I hate everyone.

Christian Bale so mad he wasn’t cast as Charlie.
Each scene in this movie starts out a bit funny and slowly becomes more and more intense and depressing. The performances are incredible; obviously Brendan Fraser is insane but Hong Chau and Sadie Sink is amazing too. The themes of redemption and honesty were truly inspiring and I think most of the people in the cinema cried their eyes out. While…

The screenplay isn't all that exciting, and often got carried away with a subplot surrounding religion and afterlife. When it decides to focus on Charlie's past, and inner feelings, it comes alive. And yet everytime the story went back to a debate on religion I just wanted to learn about Charlie. If it wasn't for Brendan Fraser absolutely dominating every scene, and delivering such heartbreaking emotion in every frame, I don't know what type of movie this would have turnt out as. Either way he's a sure bet for the Oscar and I couldn't be happier.

    George Clark

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is a big step down from the first movie, proving once again that bigger isn’t always better, upping the stakes while loosing much of the heart that made the first so touching. While the horror opening is fantastic, the cast all do a great job (mainly Levi, Angel, Grazer and Zegler), and it honestly is a lot of fun, it’s the definition of a generic comic book movie with the story rarely working for me…

Can one just whisper “Shazam” and it still works? Why do they always have to yell it?!?

Shazam Fury Of The Gods was fine. Nothing really made me mad so I consider that a win. Although, it sucks that is the standard for Super Hero movies lately.

The family dynamic is fine and the comedy mostly works. Helen and Lucy as the villains had no real substance but they seemed to have fun.

I actually really liked the final battle…

★★★ Rewatched by Rich & The Strahsberries 18 Mar 2023

I brought a bunch of random movies to my friend's house and after we watched The Bagman he picked this out of the stack.

I really enjoy the werewolf transformation. It is cheesy and low budget but they look great.

I really felt bad for Justine, the detective. She put it all out there and Stephanie wasn't having any of it.

I usually hate cheering during movies, but the way the audience lit up when the title card rolled was so fucking hype. Easily one of the most memorable theatre experiences I've ever had

A guy fell asleep in the opera box and when he was asked to leave for dangling his feet over the audience, he threw his popcorn in the air and screamed "this movie fucking sucked!" Then Bruce Campbell said "Get the fuck out then!" and flipped him off. Wild night

No amount of blood and gore featured here will equate to the sick ego death of that weird dude who boo’ed out of the Paramount by fans and Bruce Campbell. Idk, I’ll let the Necronomicon take me by that point.

    GROOVY AF.

A savage crowdpleaser. Builds upon the lore of the series in a fresh manner. Both the leads give their all in completely different, but equally impressive, ways.

Not everything worked for me, but I think the majority did and I was won over by the end. The longer I sit with it, the more I think I like it. A lot of fun with the festival crowd. May reevaluate on a rewatch though, sometimes the festival high causes…
