I wanted Skinamarink to be over for a reason I'd never demanded from a movie before, one that I can only describe as a feeling of frozen fear all too familiar with the worst nights of my childhood — what could only feel as having happened at least 572 times, nights where I'd stand out of bed because the corners of my ceiling were too ominous, the hallway before my parent's room that seemed to stretch a mile long and too…

Awe-inspiring and monumental. Godfrey Reggio's first instalment in his Qatsi trilogy is an intoxicating meditation on the inseparable relations humanity has with natural, scientific, and industrially produced technologies. Juxtapositions of time-lapsed footage of traffic posed beside the slow motion capturing of every day human-driven transportations propel the viewing experience forward.

There's a lot of valid commentaries about queerness, accepting peoples' identities, and doing the adult thing (even if it's the hardest thing to do) here — there's way worse movies about gayness that are written and directed by straight men out there lol

Mostly a circle-jerk for a German story that I didn't think meshed with the onscreen characters at all — air-filled ideas that are shot well enough but with some of the longest slow takes that had me wanting anything (besides more convoluted dialogue about the aforementioned German book) to be on screen.

Enough ideas and executions are enjoyable and nice to look at and I'm excited to see what this (very obviously passionate) filmmaking does moving forward.

The Outwaters looked like it was filmed inside a can of Chef Boyardee and shaken around a bunch. The big difference, however, is that a can of Chef Boyardee knows its trash and still has more flavour than this!
