“The past is just a story we keep telling ourselves”
A poignant and cathartic dissection of modern romance. This is a beautiful film. It subverts our expectations of a romance film without being pretentious. Joaquin Phoenix is mesmerizing in this role, portraying all of the loneliness, internalized heartbreak, compassion, and sensitivity of Theodore. The colors are beautiful and I loved the costume design.
This may be one of my absolute favorite movies. This movie honestly has one of the most…
No one has ever looked hotter than dudes in John Carpenter movies with mullets and 80s blue jeans
The emotional beats hit so hard. One of James Cameron’s greatest strengths is his ability to inject weight into what other directors would just treat as large blockbuster set dressing. And as he has got older, his emotional sensibilities have become even more potent and empathetic. This movie is so many greats things, but at its heart it’s a story about the complicated dynamics of family: how you protect it and how you can fail to control it. It’s beautiful and so, so true.
