Arronofsky throwing a lot of ideas at the wall and I liked all of them. The performances are undeniable but the script doesn’t serve the actors as well as it could. The relationship between Ellie and Thomas could have been lifted out of the movie. None of the shots are terribly compelling but the themes of loss, connection, faith and caring for an addict were all valiant in there efforts to shine through.
