Griffin Armour’s review published on Letterboxd:
Absolutely brutal. There's a primal, animal-like desire that courses through the blood of The Northman. This Shakespearean tale of vengeance indulges in the bloodthirstiest desires of man in both a figurative and literal sense.
Everything is so technically proficient but there wasn't really anything that ever blew me away. The scale is genuinely jaw-dropping at times but I left with this nagging feeling that I hadn't seen anything particularly new or inventive. Even the weird eccentricities of Norse mythology I felt could have been dialed up to a higher degree.
There's just something special about bringing a movie like this to theaters in 2022 though. It's such a joy to sit in a packed theater on a Thursday night and watch someone get their throat slit by a 250-pound Viking wearing wolfskin.
