Midsommar ★★★★★

Hereditary is a polarizing film, and I suspect this will be as well. I happen to love both, but have a particular soft spot for this one, which is like an arthouse Wicker Man with a few dashes of Judd Apatow and some splatter-horror mixed in. It's also perhaps the most interesting break-up film I've seen in some time. In some ways, the film has more to say about these kinds of interpersonal horrors and trauma than it does about the Harga, the fictional--but convincing--Swedish pagan cult in the film.

Seeing this in the theater heightens the experience; if this kind of movie is your thing, I'd recommend going and seeing it now while you can. It's not going to be as visceral streaming it on your laptop.
