• Destroyer

bummer - Nicole Kidman looks silly in her makeup and overacts, the rest of the cast is amazing, I loved the director's last film (The Invitation). What might have been an interesting puzzle-structure noir stretched into implausible Oscar-bait.

    Random Acts of Violence

love being scolded for trying to enjoy the genre elements the movie is supplying - condescending horse pucky

  • The Collector

    The Collector

sux - mean spirited and dumb - could’ve been interesting if the direction/script showed some restraint

  • New Order: Decades

    New Order: Decades

    Barney is a twerp

  • Porno

three n a half - four stars until the last 20 min - great premise, genuinely funny, refreshingly dumb

  • Dragged Across Concrete

    Dragged Across Concrete

like a Left Behind film made by someone with talent
a strange kind of abstraction born (i think) out of vaguely MAGA ideology laid over a 70 heist gone wrong picture
Mel Gibson’s performance redefines “guilty pleasure” - he’s by far the most interesting thing in the movie
yeah but not as good as Tomahawk ir Cell Block and the dialogue is 3rd rate Mamet

  • Vivarium

fascinating premise, sloppy and approximate execution... the dialogue and Jesse Eisenberg are intolerable

  • The Crazies

    The Crazies

basically a documentary of next week

  • The Hunt

    The Hunt

No coherent point of view, and not nearly unhinged enough to be the satire it wants to be... but nothing to get all worked up over, politically. It's kind of fun but would be irredeemable without the weird, magnetic performance of Betty Gilpin. I wish this movie either took itself less or more seriously... on brand Lindelof, taking an intriguing premise and way overplaying his hand with baroque twists and structural innovations that don't make the watching more fun or interesting. But Betty Gilpin.

  • Absentia

if you like watching people weep for two hours

  • Eden Lake

    Eden Lake

great until the “society really makes you think” ending which was frustrating and unsatisfying - i wanted english female Death Wish

  • The Banana Splits Movie

    The Banana Splits Movie

Solid B movie with some surprisingly committed acting and good bad taste camp - I don't know what else you were looking for when you decided to see this...
