I love the quirkiness of this adaptation, which excuses some of the liberties, at least for me, taken from the original book. It doesn’t take itself super serious and that’s what made it all the more fun and delightful to watch.

So this is a pretty faithful adaptation (which is always important in my eyes and would make it objectively good if not for my other problems with the movie) but I was just not feeling the overall playful and charming, quirky tones that are originally in the novel. it was just “meh”, not bad, but not great either—which is extremely disappointing considering how good the novel is.
as a self proclaimed mcu “hater” this is my favorite film to come out of the universe. many people consider it the weakest of the 3 captain america movies, and I say otherwise. Maybe because it’s I love time period movies and superhero movies separately but combine them together? Perfection for me (also looking at you Wonder Woman).
