Scream VI

Scream VI ★★★½

Had a good time with this one; liked the fresh take on the cold open, the brutality of the kills and how bold and combative Ghostface was in this iteration, attacking groups and whatnot. It felt like a real change of pace, and the new big city setting helped that along too. The returning cast is great; I liked most of them enough already in the previous film, but everyone felt on top of their game and the expanding relationship of the "core four" was very sweet. The returning legacy characters were mostly well utilized too, though Kirby did seem to just fade in and out of the story in places.

I wasn't in love with the reveal and finale. The kills remained visceral and fun, but it did feel a little obvious where it was going, and all the monologue stuff just wasn't winning me over. It's fine, it's not the worst reveal, but it wasn't quite the direction I was hoping for based on earlier acts. Still, if I had to pick, I would say I favor this slightly over the last film, so I'm open to the possibility that this could climb up a rating over time the way that Scream 4 did for me.
