Hype is a real killer man. I was so stoked for this because of the absolute all star cast and source material, but ultimately I was a bit let down. This let down mostly stems from there being too much auxiliary plot, and while I understand this plot detail may be necessary in the novel version of this film, it completely detracts from any type of cinematic dramatic arc. The performances are good and when it’s tense, oh boy is it tense, but I wouldn’t say I was wowed in any capacity, which is a huge bummer considering my anticipation for this movie to come out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth your time to watch it, as it is very entertaining, but it is over-long, not very well paced (especially in the final act), and shot very uninterestingly.... also.... it is so grainy all the fucking time, literally just lower the ISO on the fucking camera. But on the plus side: it’s everyone’s faves all in the same movie so it’s easy to fan girl about. Plus I guess it is nice to watch an incredibly bleak movie once and a while, and god damn, is this one bleak.
