Suspiria

Suspiria ★★★★★

This has been such a highly anticipated movie for me and it totally delivered, in every way I hoped it would. I’ve seen the original Suspiria at least 8 times, it’s one of my favorite films of all time, and I may be talking blasphemy here, but this version reigns supreme in my book.

It's been over 42 hours since my viewing, and I still don’t know if I have the right words to fully express the awe I feel coming out of this movie. I left the theater feeling so similar to how I felt after watching my favorite films for the first time. I was overwhelmed with emotions! Something, in particular, that I’ve never had happen to me while watching a film before was that it shook me to the core… and made my teeth chatter and heart race. Quite possibly the most terrifying film experience I’ve sat through in my life—and I’ve seen a lot of obscene, twisted ones. The use of the macabre imagery gave it a clandestine feel, as if I was watching something *forbidden*. The technical aspects made this an even better viewing experience, evocative of ‘70s Italian Giallo films, and Thom Yorke’s soundtrack/score (“The Radiohead Effect”) is the best thing about it all for me. A masterpiece!

It is a reimagined take on a beloved film of mine. A movie I’ve been looking forward to like almost no other... lived up beyond my hype. It’s mesmerizing, appalling, indescribable, and just pure insanity. This will almost certainly be talked about for years to come. Admittedly, not for everyone. Some will love it, some will hate it, and some will hate it more than others. It is a total assault on your senses. So, watch at your own discretion. In the end, it was an out-of-body experience I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. Truly a nightmare that I didn’t want to wake up from.
