For the vast majority of its run time Spider-Man 2 expands on it's predsecer perfectly. While it does steal a lot from the previous film it is able to tell it's own unique and interesting story about Peter Parker's internal struggle against his ulterior ego Spider-Man. It's an amazing character study of a super hero.
It does have quite a few issues holding it back from being better than the first one for me. It ends in sluggish final battle and (hot take) features an overall unessary antagonist that although cool in design, is kinda just rehash of The green goblin and makes the narrative about how Peter Parker copes with being spider-man not only more disinterested but less poinent as well. But at the end of the day most of this film is just an undeniable joy to watch. With amazing camera work, iconic characters and a extremely tight screen play. Such a charming film. One of the best comic book films ever made.
Edit: 9/10, this is a fucking beautiful film.
Doc oc is also a really cool villain. Changed my mind.
