a lucid, eerily controlled pulp fantasia that falters only when it distrusts its marvel of a protagonist to make the case for her own existence. lines like “can a robot love a human?” are miles behind the visual and performative resonance the film has already achieved by the time they are spoken.
were this more overtly splattery (the gore in the OVA doesn’t allow for the hard divide in the movie between flesh & metal) it would be perfection
+ .5 for me having a panic attack afterwards
