Hayden Welch’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Put in another quarter and try again...”
More of a aimless and character driven Scorsese flick rather than a focused punch like Raging Bull at a persons’ psyche but they tick two very different boxes for me. The pure atmosphere of the picture really allows us to get to know our two central leads; the impeccable and underrated Ellen Burnstyn and the incomprehensibly annoying Alfred Lutter.
While it’s a more than predictable film, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore is a delightful little road-trip film with a heart that pushes it over the finish line for me. It feels like a genuine piece of 70s cinema that could only be made when and where it was.
