Hayden Welch’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Theme?! Don’t annoy me with that. People’s lives don’t have a theme”
Sion Sono has yet to disappoint, this is one of the most innovative beautiful films I’ve ever seen. It’s the most anarchical feminist Tour de force I’ve ever witnessed; just as you start to feel comfortable Sion Sono rips the floor from beneath you in the most wonderful ways.
Along with being a stunning social commentary on the porn industry and women’s roles and how men corroborate them, it’s also a gorgeous looking film. The craftsmanship behind the camerawork, framing and cinematography, mostly through some of the most innovative costume and production design of all time, left me hypnotized.
Go into this one as blind and open-minded as possible and hopefully you’ll enjoy it, though it’s definitely an adjustment.
