Hayden Welch’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Rich people are naive. No resentments. No creases on them.”
It’s sort of hard to understate how brutally exhausted I was after a full day of driving back when I saw this gem over a year ago in cinemas, and while I’m not sure what compelled me to give this another go I’m glad I did. While I think people conjuring up the profoundness and nuance of the actual subtext often stretches farther than its flexibility reaches it’s hard to deny how effective and tense it is in the context of this amazing thriller. I don’t believe that films that attempt to say something deeper always have to break new ground, sometimes, and in Parasite’s case, it’s more than enough to bring it to the modern era and apply it in a genre context. And while this is gorgeous eye candy and perfectly presented, the script and the way everyone on-screen executes it — with a lot of help from behind the camera — in such an engaging and relevant way, that I can’t help but love it.
