The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!

    ★★★½

The Pirates! Band of Misfits is a gorgeously animated film that is as dashingly entertaining for a younger audience as it was when I viewed upon initial release. The cast is jam packed with British icons that serve this script absolute justice and some, however there is an unfortunate lack of humour accessible to both younger and older audiences. Maybe it’s a petty criticism, but the innuendo or subtle slights that older viewers can consume made this rewatch a little bit harder. However, this is obviously a very fun film that was created for kids, and for that, Pirates! is a very solid piece.

  • See How They Run

    See How They Run

    ★★★½

See How They Run is a wildly unique illustration of and commentary on detective/whodunnit films that is as eye-catching as it satisfying. The leading cast, although not as star-studded as other most recent entries into this current phase of Christie-esque murder mystery films, is fronted by the stunning performer that is Saoirse Ronan, who really carries the vibrancy of this film. In the first remotely comedic role I've seen her in, she absolutely nails timing, deliveries, gags and the most…

Review Part 1 (Part 2 is also worth ur time):

The Lizzie McGuire Movie (in no world is her name Maguire, why did I wholeheartedly believe that was the case) is a wonderfully wholesome, Disneycore film that, although it doesn't break fundamental new grounds in its realm, at least as far as I can tell, it doesn't fail to be mostly grippingly entertaining, humorous and just all-round cute. The characters of Lizzie and Gordo, despite the former being more developed…

  • North Country

    North Country

    ★★★★½

Bob Dylan’s dulcet meanderings form the soundtrack to an emotionally charged piece that successfully puts previously unrepresented issues on the map, through means of high star power and subversive, melodramatic Hollywood storytelling. North Country is a film that keeps hitting you, kicking you when you’re down, relentlessly disgusting, interrogating and assaulting your sensibilities for the sake of shocking truth-telling and in honesty, it is all the better for it. This is a very real piece that deserved the light of…

  • His House

    His House

    ★★★½

Remi Weekes captures an essence of the immigrant experience that is normally traded for heartfelt drama and visceral distraught - His House aims to terrify audiences with the most vile horrors that go the most unspoken in society. This screenplay is so in touch with the lives of millions of desperate and trying people across the planet who, just like Bol and Rial that are seen here, have sacrificed and are currently giving up the most basic of integrities to continue…
