New Zealand has my full endorsement to continue its invasion of global indie comedy. A love story between two, exceptionally developed and wildly different friends, Sami and van Beek's energy is as infectious as it is sharp and relentless. It's an absolute pleasure to see the overlap in style and influences between this and works like Flight of the Conchords or Waititi's filmography, but rest assured this film stands tall on its own in the exciting landscape of New Kiwi comedy.
This is the best case scenario for Peele's sophomore. Despite a somewhat convoluted plot and motifs that fall short of Get Out's clock work precision, US remains a triumph, definitive proof that Peele's debut was anything but a fluke. It's stunning to see how far he could push this breathtaking cast, in ways as delightful as they are devastating. This film would have been a disaster if everyone involved wasn't having the time of their lives.
