Linnéa’s review published on Letterboxd:
De Niro at his absolute best. The transformation of a loner with the intense need to feel belonging in the vibrating, dark and pulsating streets of New York. It is all madness which gets us inside of a protagonists psyche and his search of finding his place in this world.
The warm, jazzy sax score sets the entire mood of the whole story. The score is both lonely, alienated, rich and romantic. The lightening and the neo-noir vibe is so dark and grim which articulates the loneliness and disgust of the streets. The script by Paul Schrader is brilliant and of course Martin Scorsese’s direction just brings everything together with the story of the lone wolf in the Big Apple being a taxi driver.
Yeah this was just so so so excellent.
