Dakota Fanning is so underrated. She is able to convey so much with her face alone. The sadness and pain of what she thinks to be a hopeless situation emanates off the screen throughout the film that it can be almost too much at times. A lesser actress and this coulda been average period drama fare but she raised it up and then some. Emma Thompson really shone in her supporting role too.
