Helen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Lady Bird doesn’t feel like a debut film, so well executed and laced with confidence. Greta Gerwig’s set a very high bar with her first film and I loved it!
Yes, the coming of age story is well known territory but it’s the authentic feel to it, the focus on a mother and daughter, on a best friend, and all the other relationships that set it apart. It’s these relationships that become the focal points and it unravels itself beautifully. Saoirse Ronan is always superb and she nails it once again as Lady Bird. She’s surrounded by a very good cast, adding to that sense of realism.
Where was this film ten years ago for me?!
